Historically, the neighborhoods of Beverly and Evergreen Park have not been destination spots when it comes to finding Black-owned businesses. However, the tide has turned in recent years, with more and more Black-owned businesses calling Beverly and Evergreen Park home. In fact, we couldn’t cover them all in just one post, so here are just a few. Take a glimpse of Black-Owned Beverly/Evergreen Park Part I.
Ain’t She Sweet Café– In April, one of Chicago’s favorite South side eateries opened arrived in the Beverly neighborhood-and business has been booming ever since. The popular eatery is known for its healthy menu of sandwiches, wraps and desserts. Patrons can carry out or dine in from 10-6 (M-F) and 11-6 (Saturdays). Stop by Ain’t She Sweet Café at 9920 S. Western in Beverly.
Belle Up– Belle Up Boutique offers a truly unique experience on Chicago’s South side. The popular boutique, now in its seventh year, serves up a rare blend of fashionable women’s wear, gifts and accessories, as well as chic maternity wear. It’s one of the few locations to offer maternity wear on the south side. Stop by Belle Up at 1915 W. 103rd Street.
Chicago Writer’s Studio (CWS)- Anyone whose ever sought a writing class on the city’s South side knows the options are very limited. Founded by Novelist Cole Lavalais, the Chicago Writer’s Studio was created to “foster community and creativity” on the south side. Plump Chicago Floral and Events- Plump Chicago is a boutique full-service flower shop and event planning company. Recently relocated from the Bronzeville neighborhood, Plump Chicago’s floral design and event planning services will be a welcome addition to the Beverly area.
